The RI Rivers Council was created by the RI General Assembly (RIGL46-28) to provide policy guidance and stewardship for the state’s rivers and their watersheds. The Rivers Council works in conjunction with nine designated local watershed councils located throughout the state. The Rivers Council generally meets the second Wednesday of the month at state offices in Providence. Your input is welcome. More information can be found on the Rivers Council at http://www.planning.state.ri.us/rivers/default.htm.  For specific inquiries, contact Rivers Council Chair Meg Kerr at 401-714-2313 or megkerr@cox.net.

Becoming a RI Watershed Steward recognized by the Rivers Council will enable you to become a more effective advocate for our rivers and their watersheds by learning hands-on techniques and insights about the river network. To become recognized, course attendance and performing a community service project with the Rivers Council or one of its designated watershed councils is required. Course enrollment is limited to 30. A course manual will be provided to participants. The course fee is $45 which is a subsidized rate. Course scholarships and financial support for community service projects are available at the discretion of the Rivers Council. The Rivers Council plans to offer the course each spring and autumn in communities throughout the state.
