Avedisian, Stenhouse announce improvements
to Gaspee Point boat ramp

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian and Councilwoman Sue Stenhouse announced today that construction would begin the week of October 12 to improve the Gaspee Point boat ramp at Passeonkquis Cove. The ramp is at the southwest end of Gaspee Point Drive, off Narragansett Parkway.

The boat ramp provides important coastal access to upper Narragansett Bay and the Providence River for local residents and fishermen.

Avedisian noted that the project is part of his administration’s “ongoing effort to improve coastal access.”

“When we learned that funds were available through the Federal Aid Sport Fish Restoration Act, (Dingell-Johnson Act), our Planning Department worked with the Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Fish and Wildlife to establish a cooperative agreement that would use 100 percent of state funding to improve and reconstruct the ramp,” Avedisian said.

Work will last approximately a month and will consist of cleaning and re-grading the parking area and installing new tongue and groove concrete slabs for the bed of the ramp. During construction, the ramp will be closed and unavailable to the public and emergency personnel, DEM said.

“We are grateful to the state Department of Environmental Management for their willingness to do the job at no cost to the city,” Stenhouse said. “The improvements to the boat ramp will offer better access to our beautiful coastal waters and will complement revitalization efforts currently underway throughout the village.”
