Avedisian appointed to Trust’s board of trustees

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian has been named to the Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust’s Board of Trustees, effective March 1. He fills the unexpired term of Bill Fazioli, current city manager of East Providence. Avedisian’s term extends through the end of December 2007.

According to its website (www.ritrust.com), the Trust began in July 1986 as “an innovative idea in the minds of a small group of local elected officials and government chief executives associated with the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns in response to the changing insurance market.” Founding municipalities – which included Warwick, Cranston, Cumberland, East Providence, Foster and Woonsocket – developed a framework that allowed local municipalities and school districts to jointly self-insure liability, property and workers’ compensation risks.

The trust currently includes 110 public entities. In addition to municipalities and school districts, its membership is comprised of “special purpose districts,” which include, among many others, the Kent County Water Authority, public libraries, local fire districts, Volunteers of Warwick Schools and the West Bay Collaborative.
