City’s mosquito abatement program underway
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian, Public Works Director David Picozzi and Highway Chief Michael Weber announced that the city’s annual mosquito abatement program is well underway, and asked residents to help in the efforts by getting rid of anything in their yards that holds standing water, (like old tires, buckets and other debris). Gutters should be clean and free of debris so that they can drain properly.
Once a month, from June through October, the Department of Public Works applies a repellent to storm drain basins throughout the city to prevent mosquito breeding. They also treat marshy areas, which attract the insects.
Additionally, throughout the year crews perform general cleaning and maintenance of the drains to ensure that water doesn’t collect and stagnate.
