Avedisian to Make Donation in Lieu of Holiday Cards

WARWICK – For the third consecutive year, Mayor Avedisian will make a monetary donation to a local non-profit agency in lieu of sending out holiday cards, he announced today.

This year’s recipient will be the new Warwick Dental Clinic currently under construction in the Wilcox Health Center, run by CCAP, on Buttonwoods Avenue.

Earlier this month, Avedisian participated in a ceremonial groundbreaking for the clinic, which will provide critical dental care to those who need it most – children, families and individuals living in poverty who do not have a dentist. An adjacent building will house a lab and offices.

Slated to open next month, the Warwick site will have three dental operatories. In addition to on-site services, CCAP dentists and hygienists will be going into elementary schools and Head Start programs through its “Westbay Smiles” program. This program will provide good, accessible dental care to hundreds of children and adults, denying no one services based on their financial situation and will help to eliminate some of the common barriers to receiving dental care.

Last year, Avedisian made his donation to the Westbay Marketplace, a food cupboard of choice. The previous year, the recipient was CCAP, for the Wilcox Health Center.

“I can think of no better way to honor my family, friends and employees than making a donation to an organization that will have such a long-lasting, positive effect on our community,” he said.
