Kent HeartSafe Foundation’s new website offers wealth of information

WARWICK – Dr. Joseph Spinale, chairman of the Kent HeartSafe Foundation, announced today that the organization’s new website, www.kentheartsafe.org, is available for public use.

The website offers a wealth of information, from the Foundation’s mission statement and the list of its trustees, to facts about sudden cardiac arrest (SAC), automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR. It also provides information about where the general public can go to receive training in CPR and the use of AEDs, and how to purchase a state-of-the-art AED at a discounted price.

Additionally, the site provides information about corporate sponsorships, HeartSafe Foundation news and events, links to other agencies and organizations and contact information. It also offers a way for individuals or businesses to make a tax-deductible donation to the non-profit agency; the Foundation recently received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS.

Last April, Spinale and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian announced the creation of the Heart Safe Foundation and its board of trustees. The Foundation’s mission is to promote public awareness, AED registry and purchasing, advocacy and fundraising.

Establishing a Heart Safe Foundation was one of the recommendations made by the Warwick Heart Safe Task Force, which Avedisian created by executive order in the fall of 2005 to review and assess the community’s current response to SCA; the availability of CPR trained personnel within Warwick; current AED availability and future need; implementation of future Department of Health “Heart Safe Community” criteria and to make recommendations for community training in CPR/AED use and funding of AED programs.
