Warwick earns Tree City USA designation for eighth consecutive year

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that the National Arbor Day Foundation has named Warwick a Tree City USA for the eighth consecutive year.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

The city was awarded the designation because it has again successfully met the four standards of a Tree City: have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

“Margie Ryan and Antoinette Snyman do a remarkable job to promote the tree planting program, expand our tree farm, and help to educate the public about the importance of trees and other landscape components,” Avedisian said. “Without their efforts, we would not be nearly as successful with our forestry program.”

“Trees in our cities and towns help clean the air, conserve soil and water, moderate temperature and bring nature into our daily lives,” said John Rosenow, president of The National Arbor Day Foundation. “Tree City USA designation recognizes the work of elected officials, staff and citizens who plant and care for the community forest.”
