WARWICK – U.S. Senator Jack Reed, Mayor Scott Avedisian and representatives from the city’s Department of Human Services will unveil two new Transwick buses, for which the Senator secured funding, at a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway, Warwick.
Personnel from the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority, which helped to process the grant funds, have also been invited to attend.
The buses will allow the city to expand its transportation services to the elderly in Warwick.
In existence since 1988, the program now features seven vehicles in its fleet, with two full-time and four part-time drivers who provide transportation to over 1300 riders each week. Services include trips to local grocery stores, the Pilgrim Senior Center, retail shopping and recreational sites, as well as transportation to hospitals and nursing homes for visits, monthly pharmacy and banking trips and non-medical personal appointments.
