AVEDISIAN ANNOUNCES CDBG AWARDS
Non-profits, neighborhood associations to reap benefits of federal grants
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today the annual awarding of Community Development Block Grant funds to a neighborhood association and non-profit agencies.
A total of $169,922 has been allocated for public service projects and will be distributed as follows: Westbay Community Action, Inc, a total of $42,300 for emergency housing assistance, children’s center case manager and social services case manager; Warwick House of Hope, $19,600 for HOPE and comprehensive social services program; JONAH, $6,500 for a human service program; Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, $12,100 for youth programming; Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick, $15,000 for Oakland Beach Branch operations; The Kent Center, $10,000 for the victims of trauma program; Day One (formerly the Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center of RI), $2,800 for the children’s advocacy center; Indigenous People Organization, $5,600 for a youth program; Kent County VNA, $8,022 for its Hope for Health clinic; Cornerstone Adult Services, $14,000 for activities for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease; CCAP, $15,000 for the WestBay Smiles Dental program; and Rhode Island Family Shelter, $19,000 for case management.
An additional $155,000 will be allocated to agencies undergoing public facilities/site improvement projects. They are: The House of Hope, $30,000 for Thomas Wilbur House renovations; FRIENDS Way, $25,000 for ADA bathroom renovations; and The Kent Center, $100,000 for construction of a new building.
An additional $187,323 will be allocated for the following housing projects: WestBay Community Action, $25,000 for its home repair program and $50,000 for its housing project; Kent House, Inc., $25,000 for renovation of transitional housing; and a total of $87,323 for the city’s affordable housing initiatives and housing plan ($67,323 and $20,000, respectively).
Several neighborhood groups receive funds on a rotating basis. This year, the Oakland Beach Association will receive $100,000 to help implement portions of its master plan.
The remaining funds for Year 33 of the Community Development Block grant are $195,000 for administrative costs and $95,000 for the Home Improvement Loan Program.
