New fire headquarters to be dedicated on Friday
Public is invited to attend ceremony, tour the facility
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian, Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan and Assistant Chiefs Michael Walsh and Edmund Armstrong will host the formal dedication/opening ceremony for the new fire headquarters, 111 Veterans Memorial Drive, on Friday at 2 p.m.
The public is cordially invited to attend. Tours of the facility will be held immediately following the speaking program and will be offered until 6 p.m.
The 22,000 square-foot facility features four apparatus bays and 13 offices, two conference rooms and a training room that will be used as an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the event of a crisis. An additional ten rooms are located downstairs.
The department’s new $4.7-million headquarters, paid through a voter-approved public safety bond issue and homeland security grants, will be the new home to fire administration, fire prevention and inspection divisions. Another $150,000 in the form of a direct Congressional grant offset costs of development of the EOC.
The building was designed by Paul Satas of Architectura, Inc. of Pawtucket as principal architect, in conjunction with Cole and Russell Architects of Ohio.
With its historic features, Station One complements other structures in Apponaug. Also, with its close proximity to police headquarters, the Veterans Memorial Drive property is now home to Warwick’s Public Safety Complex, the first in city history.
