Finance, treasury departments earn national recognition, fourth year in a row
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has again awarded the city’s Finance and Treasury departments its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award was given for the city’s comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
This is the fourth consecutive year the city has been awarded the certificate, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. GFOA says “its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
“As I have said numerous times before, the members of our finance and treasury departments are hardworking individuals who put forth their best efforts every day to ensure both the city’s fiscal health and the integrity of their offices,” Avedisian said. “It comes as no surprise to me that they have again been recognized for their work. On behalf of our citizens, I congratulate them for earning this certificate.”
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR, GROA says.
The group is a nonprofit, professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals, with offices in Chicago and Washington, DC.
