Changes in Purchasing Department means further savings, Avedisian says

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that he has restructured personnel duties in the Purchasing Department, a move that will mean annual savings of nearly $47,000.

Two longtime employees, Kathy Bromage and Eileen Tortorella, recently retired. Avedisian has since eliminated one of those positions and added duties to the remaining position, for a savings in salary and benefits of $46,521 each year.

Mary Leavitt, a current employee, transferred from the Police Department and began work last week, Avedisian said.

Last week, Avedisian announced the restructuring of several positions in the Youth Services Division and the Parks and Recreation Department, which will save $103,503 annually.

“All of these changes will result in total annual savings in salary and benefits of $150,024, without a change in the quality or quantity of services that we provide to our residents,” Avedisian said. “I appreciate the cooperation and support of my department directors and union leadership as I made these changes, and know that those employees who took on additional responsibilities are well qualified to handle the challenges before them.”
