WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian is asking residents and business owners to make sure that sidewalks in front of their property are shoveled and cleared of ice as soon as possible after any snowstorms this winter.
Avedisian noted that there are a number of residents who walk, either for enjoyment or practical purposes. “When the sidewalks aren’t cleared, people are forced to walk in the street, which puts their safety at risk and poses an additional hazard for drivers.”
In fact, it has been the law in the city for at least 35 years that an owner, owner-designated occupant, or any person having the care of a building clear sidewalks of ice and snow. Those who do not comply with the law are subject to fines or other penalties. (Chapter 70, sections 101-105).
