Wildlife and Conservation Commission to celebrate Arbor Day in 4th annual event
WARWICK – The Warwick Wildlife and Conservation Commission will host an Arbor Day Tree Planting ceremony on Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. A tree, provided by the City’s Landscaping Office, will be planted at the Aldrich Junior High School, 789 Post Road.
One of the purposes of the Warwick Wildlife and Conservation Commission, as listed in its bylaws, is to “enhance natural aesthetics and wildlife habitat” of the City. This marks the fourth year in a row the Commission has hosted a tree planting. Last year’s event was at Greenwood Elementary School, in memory of Dylan Gleavey. Two years ago the tree planting at was held at Oakland Beach Elementary School, and three years ago at Cedar Hill School – all were all a big success.
Anne Holst, chair of the Commission, expressed gratitude for all the work that went into this event. “I want to give thanks to several people, especially Aldrich Junior High School Principal William Sangster; Margie Ryan City Landscaping Office, for her help in obtaining the tree; Joe Bucci for picking up the tree and preparing the ground for the tree; and Susan Cabeceiras of the City Planning Department for all of her work in support of the Warwick Wildlife and Conservation Commission.”
“I am very grateful to the Wildlife and Conservation Commission and all who have helped to make the Arbor Day ceremonies a success,” said Mayor Scott Avedisian. “Their efforts help to improve the aesthetic beauty of our entire city, while raising awareness of how important trees are to the environment.”
The public is welcome to attend this event. Refreshments will be provided by Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum.
