Warwick’s history, culture to be showcased this weekend
Bus tours part of the statewide Tour RI 2008 event on Saturday

WARWICK – Close to 100 people will be exploring Warwick’s beauty and history as part of the statewide Tour RI 2008 event on Saturday, Mayor Scott Avedisian announced.

Two Warwick buses will bring visitors to a May Breakfast, tours of the Aldrich Mansion and the Warwick Historical Society, lunch at scenic City Park in Buttonwoods, and tours of historic City Hall and the Clouds Hill Victorian House museum. Avedisian is scheduled to join participants for lunch.

“Tour Rhode Island is a wonderful way for our citizens to explore the rich history, culture and industries that exist in their own backyards,” Avedisian said, “and I am pleased that the Warwick leg of the tour is so popular that it has been sold out for several months.”

Tour RI includes a total of 24 motor coach tours throughout Rhode Island. All tours leave from the CCRI campus, beginning at 8 a.m., with the final tour returning at 5 p.m. Other tours include Block Island, the Blackstone Valley, South County, East Bay mansions and historic sites, the Best of Providence, Provident Arts, Culture and Theater Tour, Dining through History in Rhode Island, Newport County, Rhode Island FarmWays, Rhode Island’s Spooky Legends and an “Only in Rhode Island” tour.

For more information about the Tour RI 2008 event, call the city’s Department of Tourism, Culture and Development at 738-2000.

A voluntary donation of a non-perishable canned good for the Rhode Island Food Bank will be gratefully accepted from tour participants. The organization distributes approximately eight million pounds of food to Rhode Islanders in need through a network of over 300 member agencies.
