Avedisian’s proposed FY09 budget includes increased employee contributions to health care
Executive Order 2008-01 implements this change for non-union employees
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that he has issued Executive Order 2008-01, which will require all current, non-union employees receiving healthcare from the City to begin paying 10 percent of their health insurance plan premium, effective July 1.
The Order, which became effective with Avedisian’s signature, also requires all non-union employees hired on or after July 1, 2008 to pay 15 percent of their health insurance plan premium.
Avedisian said that his proposed FY09 budget reflects this Order, and will result in approximately $80,000 in savings annually.
“This is an important step in having all of our employees contribute more toward their health insurance premiums,” Avedisian said, adding that future negotiations with unions will include discussions about the issue.
