Property owners reminded to clear sidewalks after snowfall
WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian is asking residents and business owners
to make sure that sidewalks in front of their property are shoveled and cleared
of ice as soon as possible after any snowstorms this winter.
“We have a number of people throughout the city who walk for enjoyment and practical purposes,” Avedisian said. “For their safety, it is important that sidewalks are cleared following a snowstorm so they are not forced to walk on the street.”
In fact, it has been the law in the city for at least 30 years that an owner, owner-designated occupant, or any person having the care of a building clear sidewalks of ice and snow. Those who do not comply with the law are subject to fines or other penalties. (Chapter 70, sections 101-105).
