Avedisian unveils new city website
Warwickri.gov meant to be dynamic site, allowing continuous access to city departments, officials

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian today unveiled the city’s new official website, the culmination of a year’s worth of effort by the city’s e-government specialist, Robert Martin.

With a new online address – www.warwickri.gov – additional links to local, state and federal agencies and departments, a section designed specifically for children, a genealogical and historical image archive and access to documents such as the City Charter and the Code of Ordinances, the site is far more comprehensive, informative and user-friendly than its predecessor (warwickri.com), Avedisian said.

“This site allows people to have immediate access to city departments and officials and essentially opens City Hall on a round-the-clock basis,” Avedisian said. “Hopefully, it will also help people to become better acquainted with the workings of city government and encourage people to become more involved in our community and city events and activities.”

The website’s home page offers current headlines, a local weather report and an online poll, in addition to a list of meeting times and dates for municipal boards and commissions. With the click of a mouse, children can access “Just for Kids,” a section that allows them to learn more about the city, their schools, and send an email to the Mayor.

Those who are interested in the history of Warwick may want to visit the online archives, a genealogical and historical image archive that has been established for residents to share their resources electronically (sample images and features have already been provided).

Printable forms such as bid specifications and City Council dockets are also available, in addition to a comprehensive listing of city departments, services and government officials.

Martin has also created a module for all official documents relevant to the City of Warwick. The Official Documents section offers the entire code of ordinances and City Charter, along with the entire State Code and the U.S. Constitution.

The Action Center may be used to send secure forms to a variety of departments and elected officials, while dynamic sections such as the e-Towne Square Bulletin Board and the e-Towne Crier Chat room have been developed so that residents may converse online.

The Education section provides a comprehensive list of every school in the city, along with links to the School Department and additional educational resources that are available. For seniors, the Senior Services section offers Transwick schedules and online registration. There is also an extensive, A-Z link collection of every major online resource for the State of Rhode Island.

For students or others who need to research current issues impacting the City of Warwick, there’s a News and Issues page. The Public Safety section offers links to the city’s police and fire departments, while the Parks and Recreation Department is completely online with request forms, events, pool and skating schedules.

Because the site is designed to be dynamic, more modules will be added on a regular basis, including additional departments, committees, and non-profit organizations. Eventually, residents will have the means to access municipal accounts including taxes, water, and sewer along with the ability to review the revaluation process and current assessments, Avedisian said.
