Board of Canvassers Announces Special Election
WARWICK – Edward L. Murphy, Chairman of the City of Warwick Board of Canvassers,
has announced that a special election will be conducted on April 13, 2004 to
fill the unexpired term of the House of Representatives District 20. If a primary
election is required, it will be held on March 9, 2004.
Mr. Murphy said, "The people of House District 20 specifically and the people of the City of Warwick as a whole have suffered a major loss with the untimely passing of Paul Sherlock. He was a thoughtful yet progressive legislator whose efforts and compassion for people with disabilities knew no bounds. The person who ultimately occupies this seat will be following a huge legacy."
"Although this is a sad time, it is our primary responsibility to ensure that all of the people of the City of Warwick have representation," said Joseph Gallucci, Clerk of the Board of Canvassers.
Anyone interested in running for this position must file a declaration of candidacy at the City of Warwick Board of Canvassers on Thursday January 29, or Friday January 30, 2004 no later than 4:00PM.
All who declare
will then be required to obtain fifty (50) valid signatures from voters in House
District 20 in order to become a qualified candidate.
