City of Warwick calendars debut next week

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that the Warwick 2004 calendar should arrive in mailboxes by the end of next week. Prepared by the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Public Works’ Recycling and Sanitation Division, it offers residents a wealth of information regarding municipal services.

(Please note: due to the way the city’s mailing list is determined, calendars have been mailed to households that receive a tax bill, so some households, or individuals who reside in apartment complexes, may not get one in the mail; individuals who have not received a calendar by the first week in February and would like one should call the Department of Economic Development at 738-2000). Limited quantities will also be available at the main library on Sandy Lane and at the Pilgrim and Buttonwoods senior centers after February 2.

A new twist this year is that information normally provided in the city’s Warwick Recycler publication has been included in the calendar. Residents who participate in the new automated trash pick up program, which calls for collection of items in blue recycling bins and green recycling bins on an alternating basis, can easily determine which bin to put out, thanks to color coding on each week of the year. The calendar also offers information on the automated program, where to purchase yard waste bags, how to dispose of paint, what items should be recycled or placed in garbage cans and how to recycle Christmas trees and wrapping paper. It also details for residents what items will not be collected curbside and when trash pick-up will be delayed due to holidays. Each month also offers facts about recycling.

The 12-month calendar also features rich color photographs, many of which were submitted by residents, of Warwick’s events, historic buildings and scenic sites.

In addition, the calendar contains a message from Avedisian, a listing of municipal departments and their phone numbers, directories of Warwick’s public, private and parochial schools, fire stations, and religious organizations, as well as a listing of the meeting time, date and location of municipal boards, including the City Council, Planning and Zoning boards, Warwick Station Redevelopment Agency, and the Historic District and Wildlife and Conservation commissions.

The calendar features photos of every City Council member and his or her contact information, as well as a listing of General Assembly and School Committee members and how to get in touch with them. A directory of area hotels and motels is offered, as well as the location and hours of the city’s main library and Apponaug, Conimicut and Norwood branches.

“The calendar certainly showcases Warwick’s beauty, its rich heritage and the wide array of municipal services that the city provides,” Avedisian said. “I think the residents of Warwick will agree that this is a valuable resource to have at their fingertips.”
