Commercial, industrial property owners to receive surveys this week

WARWICK – Approximately 1100 commercial and industrial property owners will be receiving surveys in the mail this week as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain and market a comprehensive listing of all space in the city available for lease and/or purchase, Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today.

The surveys will be mailed by the New England Economic Development Services, Inc. (NEEDS), a private, Rhode Island company that was recently awarded a bid by the city to update and maintain an electronic database of properties, Avedisian said. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Economic Development Foundation of Rhode Island, Inc., a private, non-profit economic development company.

The Rhode Island Commercial and Industrial Land and Building Inventory is a statewide, electronic database that is typically used by municipal government, economic development and private companies, and real estate brokers and indirectly promotes and facilitates a stronger, healthier economic climate. It presently includes comprehensive data for a number of communities, including Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Smithfield and Woonsocket. It also includes limited data for other cities and towns throughout Rhode Island.

NEEDS will maintain and update the database on a regular basis, allowing the city’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Economic Development to respond to inquiries for business expansion and/or relocation more quickly and efficiently, Avedisian said.

The City of Pawtucket has had a similar contract with NEEDS for the past decade, and has found it to be a valuable marketing and economic development tool, Avedisian said.
