Avedisian named to St. Elizabeth’s board of trustees

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian has been named to the St. Elizabeth Community’s board of trustees, it was announced today. Avedisian, who was named to a one-year term, will help oversee the policy and operations of St. Elizabeth’s, which includes four facilities throughout the state.

The ladies of the Grace Episcopal Church founded the original facility in Providence in 1882 to provide a home for unmarried or widowed elderly women in need of assistance. It expanded its services in 1983, constructing Westminster Place to care for seniors, and in 1990 built Metacom Manor.

After deciding that the original Providence facility was in need of renovation, the St. Elizabeth’s Community began a capital campaign and, in 2001, 109 residents and 175 staff members relocated to a new building in East Greenwich. Two years later, renovations were complete at the historic structure in Providence and reopened as an assisted living facility for over 70 residents. In all, the four facilities offer a range or services, including independent apartments and nursing care.
