Warwick Katrina relief fund raised total of $37,190

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that the city’s Hurricane Katrina relief effort raised a total of $37,190. Though the city is no longer collecting funds earmarked for agencies dedicated to assisting those affected by the hurricane, Avedisian strongly encouraged those who would still like to donate to contribute directly to The American Red Cross or other reputable organizations.

“The fundraising drive far surpassed our original expectations,” Avedisian said. “The generosity we witnessed has been a source of great comfort and hope during this time of overwhelming sadness and devastation, and I thank everyone who has come forward to help.”

Donations, which ranged in amount from $5 to $5,000, came in from all over Rhode Island as well as nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts communities.
