WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian and Police Col. Stephen McCartney today announced the department’s continued effort in Crime Prevention with the latest forum of “Operation Cooperation.” The City’s “Operation Cooperation” program, established in February 2004 to forge a partnership between the Warwick police department and private security agencies, will host a forum on December 7. Any retail/loss prevention and security personnel are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room of police headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive.
The workshop will focus on fraud and identity theft trends and will feature a demonstration of the department’s video enhancing “Avid Computer Program.”
Those interested in attending should contact Major Joseph Tavares at 468-4224 or by email at wpdmajoro@warwickri.com to assure seating.
Past forums have addressed post-September 11 security issues; presentations by the federal anti-terrorism task force along with other criminal activity awareness.
“Operation Cooperation” is a nationwide effort to promote and improve the working relationship between law enforcement and the private sector. Since the number of private security personnel employed within a community often exceeds the number of sworn law enforcement officers in the community, “Operation Cooperation” partners Law Enforcement with the valuable “private security” resource with the common goal of preventing and solving crime.
Future forums throughout the year will include: identifying and reacting to suspicious packages/mail, marina related crimes and maritime security, along criminal activities associated with the hotel and transportation industry.
