November 14, 2005 Dear Warwick Resident: Over the past several years, the City of Warwick has introduced the automated refuse and recycling collection program, which utilizes an automated truck with a mechanical arm to collect garbage and recycling. The program has proven very successful. We have seen a substantial increase in recycling and a decrease in the amount of trash being diverted to the state landfill. In the summer of 2006, the City of Warwick will be introducing the final phaseof the automated refuse and recycling collection program to your area. This collection system is designed to improve the efficiency of the Recycling & Sanitation Division. It will also make the chore of putting out garbage easier and cleaner for residents and will improve the appearance of the city. This system will greatly reduce the injury potential for city employees because the mechanical arm performs all the lifting. Automated carts will be distributed to your household in the summer of 2006. Each residence receiving curbside service will be provided with three carts: one 95-gallon wheeled cart (gray) for garbage, one 65-gallon wheeled recycling cart (blue) for bottles and cans and one 65-gallon wheeled recycling cart (green) for paper and cardboard. Smaller carts are available for elderly residents and residents who live alone. These residents must call the Automation Office at 732-9589, between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm , prior to distribution to see if the smaller carts are suitable for you. Requests for smaller carts must be received no later than January 6, 2006.
All three cart sizes can be viewed at the following locations: Warwick City Hall Warwick Public Library (Sandy Lane Branch) Pilgrim Senior Center ( 27 Pilgrim Pkwy. ) Buttonwoods Community Center ( 3027 West Shore Rd. ) JONAH ( 830 Oakland Beach Ave. ) If you have any questions, contact the Recycling and Sanitation Division on the Automation Hotline at 732-9589 or visit our website at: www.warwickri.gov/sanitation.htm. This program’s continued success depends on participation from our residents, and I thank you in advance for your cooperation. Sincerely,
Scott Avedisian Mayor Accessibility / Privacy Policy / Questions or Comments / Return to Home Information in this site is entirely within the public domain, unless otherwise noted, and may be reproduced but not altered in any manner.
