Comprehensive Recreational Land Use Committee

The Comprehensive Recreational Land Use Committee was established by the Warwick City Council to focus on evaluating the City’s recreational facilities and identifying potential resources for upgrades in an effort to prioritize health and fitness programs for Warwick ’s residents. All existing recreation lands not already earmarked for upgrades in the next fiscal year and those within the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department and the School Department are under consideration for recommendations.

The committee research was compiled by the following individuals:

Councilwoman Sue Stenhouse, Chairwoman
Michael Rooney, Parks & Recreation Director
David Small, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Warwick School Department
Emo DiNitto, Director of Athletics, Warwick School Department
Mark Carruolo, Planning Director

Attached is a listing suggested facility improvements for those recreational properties within the City of Warwick . The Committee will be hosting a public input and review meeting next Tuesday, May 3 rd 2005 at 7PM in the Council Chambers.

The suggested improvements were determined based on the following parameters:

  • Elementary School projects funded out of the existing School Department bonds and scheduled for completion within the next year are excluded.
  • Lands included in this study are those designated as open to the general public for use; excluding fields with restricted use permits (i.e. little league baseball fields).

The Committee is hopeful that you will be able to attend on May 3 rd and add your comments and suggestions. A copy of the report is available for review on the City website and hard copies are available in the Parks and Recreation Office at Mickey Stevens.

Thank you for your interest.
