1892-93
September 1892: PETITION: "We the undersigned, residents and
taxpayers in the town of Warwick, fully realizing that the structures
now used by the qualified voters and other inhabitants of said town
as a town house and clerk's office are entirely inadequate to meet
the demands and requirements of the size, importance and wealth
of one of the largest towns in this state, do hereby request you
insert in the warrant for the financial town meeting of said town
to be holden on the sixth day of September A.D. 1892, the following:
'To provide for the erection of a new town house and town clerk's
office on the lot now occupied by the town buildings in the village
of Apponaug."
Signed by Sixty-nine qualified voters.
October 14, 1892: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING, Lakewood Town Hall.
Town Council: Enos Lapham, Webster Knight, Joseph E. Legris, Philip
Duffy, Clarence Carpenter. Voted to accept the plans of William
R. Walker & Son for the new town hall.
October 24, 1892: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING.
Clarence O. carpenter, Committee on Disposition of Old Town Buildings,
reports that he deems it best to move the clerk's office east, and
to sell the town house at public auction.
November 28, 1892: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING.
The following bids are received for the new town house:

December 1, 1892: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING. Mr. Lapham's Office, Centreville.
Voted that the contract for the new town hall be awarded to E.E.
Carpenter of Worcester for the sum of $39,772.52.
December 5, 1892: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING (Joseph E. Legris absent)
The Contract for the new town hall is signed in two parts and the
bond of the contractor approved by the council.
May 8, 1893: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
Voted that Mr. Lapham create a committee to arrange for the corner
stone for the town hall.
September 11, 1893: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
The Clerk is directed to advertise for proposals for plumbing, heating,
and electric wiring of the new town hall.
Proposals to be received until 12 O'Clock Noon of Monday, September
25th, the Council reserving the right to
reject any and all bids.
September 25, 1893: TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
The contract for plumbing the new town hall is awarded to Thomas
A. Marvin for the sum of $1,500, he being the
lowest bidder for the same and first being required to furnish bonds
to the town in the sum of $1,500 with
satisfactory sureties. Voted that the contract for the hearting
of the new town hall be awarded to the Union Steam
& Gas Pipe Co. for the sum of $2,453, they being the lowest
bidder and first being required to furnish satisfactory
bond in the sum of $2,500.
