I need to file an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness- What do I do?

For “existing” residential or commercial properties, before a property owner may authorize or commence construction, alteration, repair, removal or demolition affecting the exterior appearance of a structure, or of its appurtenances (fencing, sheds, garage, signage, etc.) within a Historic District the property owner shall first apply for a building permit. The building permit process will start the review process with the Historic District Staff/Commission.

New fencing or alteration to existing fencing shall be coordinated with Historic staff directly.

For new or major alterations to properties that may require a land development project, subdivision, or zoning review, contact the Historic and Zoning staff, prior to the permit application for pre-application review.

I have filed for a Permit…What now?

Once you have applied for a building permit the project will be reviewed for Building Code and Zoning Compliance; once complete you will be docketed for the next available Historic District Commission meeting date.
