CandidatesDeclarations of candidacy for federal and state offices must be filed with the Secretary of State's Election & Civics Division on June 28, 29, and 30. Candidates for general assembly, local offices, district committees, and local committees must file their declaration of candidacy with the local Board of Canvassers on June 28, 29, and 30. See: Declared candidates are required to submit Nomination Papers signed by qualified registered voters. These documents are issued by either the Office of the Secretary of State or the local Board of Canvassers. The required number of signatures varies depending on the office being sought. Even if you have not submitted a declaration of candidacy, you are required under state law to submit campaign finance reports if you begin to raise or expend monies for purposes of your campaign, even if you are expending only your own funds.
