October 15 event meant to raise awareness of and support for Issue 4 on November ballot

The Rocky Point Foundation, Save The Bay, the Save our Shore Coalition and Mayor Scott Avedisian invite residents to attend a Rocky Point Rally, to be held Friday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston.

The event is meant to raise public awareness of and support for Issue 4, a bond referendum on the ballot in November, which, if approved by voters, will provide $10 million for the state to purchase all of the remaining property of the former Rocky Point amusement park for a public park, and additional funds to acquire and assure public access to the former Shooters property at India Point and provide unrestricted public access to enjoy and explore the fortifications at Fort Adams. The website of the coalition, which includes Save the Bay, with important information about the bond issue, is at www.saveourshoreri.org.
Admission is free. All attendees will receive a commemorative ticket from the old amusement park.

Tickets for clamcakes and chowder are $15. They can be purchased at the Warwick Beacon, 1944 Warwick Avenue, Warwick; the Warwick Museum, 3259 Post Road, Warwick; or online at www.getthepoint.org. Event organizers ask that clamcake/chowder tickets be purchased ahead of time to ensure sufficient supplies.

The evening will also feature refreshments like “Rocky Point” ice cream, courtesy of Warwick Ice Cream, and popcorn, as well as video clips and displays from the park, including Flume, House of Horrors and Skyliner cars. Ken Rinn, the “voice of Rocky Point” will be part of the speaking program, which will be emceed by Arlene Violet, a former Rhode Island attorney general and current media personality.
