The Animal Control Division of the Warwick Police Department consists of 3 Animal Control Officers.  

The Animal Control Officers are in the field answering animal calls phoned in by the public.  These calls consist of barking dog complaints, loose dogs, dead animals, dog bites and enforcing City ordinances and State laws pertaining to animals.  

The Animal Shelter is located at, 250 Arthur Devine Blvd., Warwick, RI 02886. The shelter can be reached at 401-468-4377.  The Pound is responsible for cleaning and feeding the stray and unwanted animals, answering phone calls from the public, logging information on the disposition of animals at the pound, record keeping and any other related office work.  

The Animal Control Division is a seven day operation with Animal Control Officers being assigned to one of two shifts.  Day shift runs from 6:00 AM until 2:00 PM and second shift runs Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM.  The Animal Shelter is open to the public from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM seven days a week.

Annually the Warwick Police Animal Control Division handles approximately 3500 complaints.  The majority of these complaints are complaints of stray dogs, barking dogs and dog bites.  Another major concern of the ACD is the number of stray cats within the City of Warwick.  The ACD transports  stray animals to the city shelter and makes every reasonable attempt to locate the owners and/or find new homes for the animals.  AC Officers search the Warwick Police Licensing Database for identifiable animal information.  Owners are subsequently contacted and requested to pick up their animals at the shelter.  In some instances, animal owners are issued citations for allowing their animals to run free and unlicensed.  

After an animal has been held for seven days at the shelter and is unclaimed, the animal may be placed for adoption.  The new animal owner is responsible for a sterilization fee of $20.00 which is refundable after sterilization has taken place.  There is also a $5.00 adoption fee and a $35.00 inoculation fee.  Normally the shelter has approximately 40 dogs and 25 cats available at any given time.  The ACD obtains approximately 600 dogs and 300 cats annually.
