| Avedisian announces annual CDBG allocations |

Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today the distribution of $531,222 in Community Development Block Grant funds to benefit more than a dozen non-profit agencies and two local neighborhood groups. The funds will be awarded for the fiscal year beginning July 1. Public service grant awards are as follows: $15,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick for their Oakland Beach branch operations; $15,000 to Comprehensive Community Action for its senior dental program; $14,000 to Cornerstone Adult Services for activities for individuals with Alzheimer’s; $2,8000 to Day One for its Children’s Advocacy program; $12,100 to the EBC House for their victim safety and self sufficiency program; $12,500 to Child, Inc. for its Head Start transportation program; and $19,600 to the House of Hope for supportive services and $75,000 toward renovations to the Thomas Wilbur House in Apponaug. In addition, VNA of Care New England will receive $8,022 for its Hope for Health Clinic; Rhode Island Family Shelter will receive $19,000 for case management; The Kent Center will receive $15,900 to aid victims of trauma and $50,000 toward its capital campaign; the Rhode Island Center for Law and Public Policy will receive $5,000 for its senior legal clinic; and Westbay Community Action, Inc. has been awarded $10,300 for its Children’s Center case manager, $27,000 for a social services case manager; $5,000 for its emergency assistance program; and $25,000 for the Home Repair program. The Conimicut Village and East Natick neighborhood associations will each receive $100,000 in this funding cycle to implement portions of their master plans. The city distributes money among six associations annually on a rotating basis. A total of $165,169 has been earmarked for the City’s affordable housing initiatives. An allocation of $208,000 has been set aside for administrative and planning costs. An additional $125,000 is allocated for costs associated with the office’s housing rehabilitation program. |
