A 1-800 number will also soon be available Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that the city is now able to accept online credit card payments for utility bills – water and sewer usage fees – on its website, www.warwickri.gov, and that, within several weeks, a 1-800 number will be available for those who wish to make payments over the phone. The city began accepting online credit card and e-check payments for real estate, motor vehicle and tangible personal property tax bills last summer. This is the next step in an ongoing process to make doing business with the city more convenient, Avedisian said. As is the case with the other types of payments, there is a fee of 2.5 percent of the amount of the transaction for utility bills. Taxpayers will know that amount before they finalize payment, and if they feel it’s too high, they can terminate the transaction and pay the bills by check or in person, said Tax Assessor/Collector Ken Mallette. Residents will have to have their utility account number to pay online. That number is printed on the bill the tax office sends out, Mallette said. |
