Election Calendar 2010

Declared candidates are required to submit Nomination Papers signed by qualified registered voters. These documents are issued by either the Office of the Secretary of State or the local Board of Canvassers. The required number of signatures varies depending on the office being sought. See the How to Run for Office publication for additional details. For frequently asked questions regarding nomination papers, please see our Frequently Asked Questions section .

Even if you have not submitted a declaration of candidacy, you are required under state law to submit campaign finance reports if you begin to raise or expend monies for purposes of your campaign, even if you are expending only your own funds. See our Campaign Finance section for additional information on the requirements and related filing deadlines.

Our Frequently Asked Questions section also has information on campaign finance issues.

Voters

In order to avoid problems on election day, make sure your voter registration is up-to-date with your correct name, address, and party affiliation. You can check your record at the Secretary of State Voter Information Center.

If you need to make any changes, download a voter registration form and submit it to your local Board of Canvassers. You must register to vote at least 30 days before the election in order to vote. If you fail to submit the registration by the deadline, you may have several options like a Limited Ballot or a Provisional Ballot.

If you are voting in the statewide primary on September 14, 2010, you have until June 16, 2010 to adjust your party affiliation. Only registered Democrats and Unaffliated Voters may vote in the Democratic Primary. Only registered Republicans and Unaffiliated voters may vote in the Republican Primary.
