Community Development Block Grant Program Print

Historically, applications are solicited in anticipation of the annual grant, public hearings are held by an Advisory commission to interview applicants and ultimately the grant money is distributed / awarded. This program has been a key element in revitalizing six Warwick neighborhoods, providing necessary services to the city's youth, seniors and disadvantaged, and in addressing the needs of critical populations in our community. An activity may be assisted in whole or in part with CDBG funds, only if the activity benefits low-and moderate-income families, aids in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight, or meets the community development needs having particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community.

The City of Warwick is currently accepting applications for funding from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.  The CDBG deadline for submitting a FY 2012 application is Friday, January 7, 2011 at 3:00 PM. Applications are to be submitted to:

CDBG Program

The CDBG program provides the City of Warwick with the opportunity to develop viable communities by funding activities that provide decent housing a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons.  Funds are awarded to carry out a wide range of community development activities directed toward neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and the provision of improved community facilities and services.  The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

If your organization is interested in improving or expanding the City’s housing stock, providing needed public facilities, revitalizing a particular neighborhood, including economic development, or providing needed public services, especially in coordination with other housing and/or revitalization activities, a CDBG project may be appropriate.

Over the years, these programs have benefited the residents of City of Warwick in many ways, both through programs operated by the City and those operated by non-governmental agencies.  For more information regarding funded activities, you can request a copy of our most recent Consolidated Plan Action Plan.

(Updated May 12, 2010)  In order to change the use of CDBG funds, the city is required to complete a substantial amendment to the 2009-2010 Action Plan. This proposed amendment will incorporate into the current program year and the establish goals, objectives and strategies for the City to spend its federal funds to benefit its very low-, low-, and moderate-income residents.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program:
In accordance with federal regulations and guidelines for the Community Development Block Grant program, the city will use $121,000 from its Affordable Housing Fund from Program Year 2009 to assistance in the repairs to homes damaged by the floods in March 2010.
