Curbside Sanitation Collection

Trash collection is a tough job. City sanitation crews collect from over 6000 houses per day, 750 houses per truck. Each sanitation crew collects an average of 14 tons (28,000 lbs) per day. Here are a few things to remember when placing trash out for curbside collection.

All trash must be at curbside by 7 am on your scheduled collection day. Exact pickup times will vary due to weather conditions, equipment breakdowns, volume of trash, new drivers, etc. Trash placed at curbside after collection trucks have gone by, will not be picked up. Warwick City Ordinance requires that all Trash containers be no larger than 32 gallons.

Do not block the trash and recyclables with your vehicle. It is difficult for the collectors to drag your barrels, furniture, rugs, etc. around your vehicle. They will not pick them up if they are blocked.

Each Sanitation employee puts an average of 7 tons of trash into the truck each day. Please consider the trash collectors when filling trash bags/containers and try to keep weight limits under fifty pounds. Loose garbage must be placed into plastic bags and any items too large for trash bags can be placed separately beside your trash containers. The sanitation crews will not be responsible for loose trash left inside garbage containers.

If you are having a problem with dogs or wild animals getting into your garbage, we suggest that you use trash containers with tight lids or lids that are weighted down as your best protection. PLEASE do not put bleach or ammonia on your trash bags to keep the animals away, as this is extremely harmful to the sanitation employees. Employees have experienced eye and skin irritations from these substances. Trash that is sprayed with ammonia or other harmful substance to keep animals away will be left behind.

If the City's Sanitation and Recycling Division observes a holiday, and your regular collection day falls on that holiday, you will receive collection the next day. The remainder of the collection week will be a day later during that holiday week. See the Holiday Collection Schedule.

Listed below are the items that are collected and that are not collected at curbside for the City of Warwick.
