In the City of Warwick, how do I dispose of:

Animal Waste
Animal waste will not be accepted for collection.

Appliances
(Refrigerators, stoves, dishwaters, air conditioners)
Place at curbside next to the blue bin on your normal trash day. These items will be picked up separately by the end of the following day

Bathroom Fixtures
(Toilets, sinks, bathtubs)
Place with your normal trash at curbside

Books/Magazines
Place inside your green bin. If you have more material than the bin can hold please bundle and tie additional items and place next to your green bin.

Bottles/Cans
Rinse and place inside blue bin. Caps and lids should be removed. Metal lids may be recycled. No need to remove paper or plastic labels.

Bottles, Glass/Jars
(Mayonnaise jars, wine bottles, beer bottles, spaghetti sauce jars, baby food jars)
Rinse and place inside blue bin. Caps and lids should be removed. Metal lids may be recycled. No need to remove paper or plastic labels.

Do not include: broken glass, cups, dishes, glass windows, plates, Pyrex, ceramics, mirrors, lightbulbs, crystal.

Bottles, Plastic (recycling symbol #1)
(Soda juice bottles, salad dressing bottles, shampoo bottles, window cleaner)
Plastic bottles with the recycling symbol #1 can be placed inside your blue bin. Rinse, remove and throw away plastic caps and lids. No need to remove paper or plastic labels.

Do not include: Plastic shopping bags, plastic food wrap, potato chip and sandwich bags, Styrofoam, plastics with symbols 3 - 7 or plastics with no number symbol, plastic tubs (yogurt, margarine, ice cream), or automotive fluid bottles (oil, antifreeze, brake fluid).

Bottles, Plastic/Jugs (recycling symbol #2)
(Milk jugs, detergent bottles, bleach bottles)
Plastic Bottles with the recycling symbol #2 can be placed inside your blue bin.  Rinse, remove and throw away plastic caps and lids. No need to remove paper or plastic labels.

Do not include: Plastic shopping bags, plastic food wrap, potato chip and sandwich bags, Styrofoam, plastics with symbols 3 - 7 or plastics with no number symbol, plastic tubs (yogurt, margarine, ice cream), or automotive fluid bottles (oil, antifreeze, brake fluid).

Boxboard
(Shoe, cereal, pasta, gift, cake mix, toothpaste, tissue boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper egg cartons)
Must be broken down into sections no larger than 3ft. And bundled and tied into a thickness no larger than 16 inches

Do not include: Take-out or frozen food boxes, soda or beer packaging, soap or laundry detergent boxes, boxes with silver or foil coatings, anything dirty, greasy or plastic-coated.

Broken Glass
Broken glass must be placed into a cardboard box. The box must be sealed and clearly marked broken glass. This box can be placed with the trash. It is not recyclable.

Brush
Brush must be bundled and tied in 4ft. lengths and placed at curbside next to your bags or barrels.

Cardboard
Boxes and other corrugated cardboard must be broken down into sections no larger than 3ft x 3ft, bundled and tied into a thickness no larger than 8 inches. Place next to the green recycling bin.

Carpets
Carpets must be rolled and tied in sections no longer than four ft. and placed at curbside

Cartons, Drink
(
Milk cartons, juice cartons, cream and creamer containers)
Place into blue recycling bin. Rinse. Straws should be thrown away in trash.

Do not include: Frozen food containers, ice cream, margarine, or TV dinner containers.

Cement/Stone
Cement, sand, stone will not be picked up by City Collection.

Ceramic
Ceramic items are not recyclable. They must be placed into heavy trash bags and placed with your trash containers.

Chain Link Fence
Metal chain link fence is not recyclable. Chain link should be rolled and secured and placed with trash containers at curbside.

Drink Cartons
(
Milk cartons, juice cartons, cream and creamer containers)
Place into blue recycling bin. Rinse. Straws should be thrown away in trash.

Do not include: Frozen food containers, ice cream, margarine, or TV dinner containers.

Fence, Chain Link
Metal chain link fence is not recyclable. Chain link should be rolled and secured and placed with trash containers at curbside.

Furniture
(Couches, chairs, bureaus, televisions, beds, mattresses)
Place at curbside on your normal collection day.

Glass, Broken
Broken glass must be placed into a cardboard box. The box must be sealed and clearly marked broken glass. This box can be placed with the trash. It is not recyclable.

Glass Bottles/Jars

Place grass and leaves and garden debris in 30 gallon biodegradable paper bags or in barrels with green "Yard Debris Only" stickers. Stickers can be obtained at the Dept. of Public Works, 925 sandy Lane.

For hazardous material you must call 942-1430 ext 241

Holiday Paper
(Wrapping paper, gift boxes, cardboard boxes) For one week only following Christmas.

The first collection following Christmas you may place items in YARD WASTE BAGS. Place bags at curbside next to your green or blue??? bin that week only.

Hypodermic Needles

Place inside a heavy duty plastic container (Bleach Bottle). When you are ready to dispose of the container, the cap must be secured with tape and the bottle clearly marked Needles. It then can be placed with your trash items.

Jugs/Plastic Bottles (recycling symbol #2)
(Milk jugs, detergent bottles, bleach bottles)
Plastic Bottles with the recycling symbol #2 can be placed inside your blue bin.  Rinse, remove and throw away plastic caps and lids. No need to remove paper or plastic labels.

Do not include: Plastic shopping bags, plastic food wrap, potato chip and sandwich bags, Styrofoam, plastics with symbols 3 - 7 or plastics with no number symbol, plastic tubs (yogurt, margarine, ice cream), or automotive fluid bottles (oil, antifreeze, brake fluid).

Large Metal Items
(Metal sheds, pools, cabinets, etc.)
Must be broken down to its original packaging and placed neatly at curbside on your normal trash day.

Metal Items, Small
(tin cans, foil, empty aerosol cans, toasters, wire hangers)
Place in blue bin. Rinse cans. (See paint cans above).

Do not include: Scrap metal longer than 3 ft. or heavier than 35 lbs., aluminum aerosol cans, oil-based paint cans, hypodermic needles.

Metal Items, Large (Metal sheds, pools, cabinets, etc.)
Must be broken down to its original packaging and placed neatly at curbside on your normal trash day.

Mixed Paper 
(Mail, envelopes, magazines, phonebooks, paperbags, shredded paper, computer paper)
Place in green bin.

Motor Oil
Motor oil can be disposed of in the oil igloo located in the City Yard at the Dept. of Public works, 925 Sandy Lane. See the attendant who will instruct you of the proper disposal.

Needles, Hypodermic

Latex paint cans that are empty can be recycled in your blue bin. Cans that are not empty will not be accepted unless the contents are completely dried. You can add sand, sawdust or kitty litter to speed up the process. They can then be place in your trash containers.

Paint (oil base)
All oil base paints must be disposed at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Call 942-1430 ext 241 to arrange an appointment

Paper, Holiday
(Wrapping paper, gift boxes, cardboard boxes)

Place into plastic bags and place curbside next to your green bin.

Tires
Tires will not be picked up at curbside. Bring tires to the City's Recycling Facility (limit two per trip) and drop off. Rims must be removed.

Wood
Cut into lengths no longer than 4ft, bundle and tie. Place with your trash containers at curbside.
