Maximum Holiday Recycling Program

Animated Leaf Bag

When the holidays are over most Warwick residents have a lot of extra material to dispose of; all that crumpled wrapping paper and crunched up gift boxes.

Most of that gift wrap is recyclable. You can help by continuing the gift giving the week after Christmas by giving all that unwanted paper and cardboard to Warwick's Maximum Holiday Recycling Program. Don't let all that material take up space in the landfill when it can be used over and over again in recycled paper.

Animated EnvelopeWe are asking all Warwick residents to join together to recycle their used gift wrap and cardboard / gift boxes. Trying to fit all that paper in small grocery bags is impossible, it just doesn't work! During the Christmas season we want to make this mandatory program as simple as possible. Again this year , we will be collecting these items in the large yard waste bags.

Fill up the bag with your wrapping paper and small cardboard boxes and put it out on the curb next to your blue bin on your first collection day after Christmas. If you miss the collection, December 26 thru December 31, you may drop off your material at the Municipal Recycling Facility or put the material out the following week in grocery bags (not in the large yard waste bags).

  1. Use yard waste bags for the recycling of your gift wrap, tissue paper and small cardboard boxes for one week only, December 26 - December 31. Place at curbside next to your green bin.
  2. There are two kinds of gift wrap that are not recyclable: paper and boxes that have a plastic or foil coating. Those go in the trash.
  3. You can put any other kind of paper that we normally collect, like junk mail, writing paper, holiday cards, etc. Larger cardboard boxes must be bundled and tied.
  4. Do not put paper out in plastic bags.

This additional collection of paper in the large bags will only last one week. Please do not put paper in these large bags after this week or any other time of the year. During this one week, please do not place anything else in the bags other than materials outlined above. We are adding this extra collection to make it convenient for everyone to recycle these mandatory items, if there are things other than recyclable paper/cardboard in the bags we will not be able to hold this extra collection again next Christmas.

For more information on the Maximum Holiday Recycling Program contact the Warwick Recycling Office at 738-2000, ext. 6513.

Thank you for your participation & enjoy the holidays.
