Introduction
to Recycling
On
December 5, 1988, Warwick started its mandatory recycling program
which provided once a week collection for over 85,000 residents.
In the beginning, the
program consisted of six trucks collecting 6500 tons per year
of newsprint and bottles & cans in one blue recycling bin.
Due to the success of
the early program, Warwick now has what is considered a model
recycling program for the state. Today, crews consist of 8 employees
on 8 trucks collecting over 10,000 tons of recyclables per year
in the Maximum Recycling Program.
The Maximum Recycling
Program is a state mandated program that encourages residents
to recycle up to 40% of their trash. The program requires that
residents use 2 recycling bins; a blue
bin for bottles, cans, juice boxes and
milk cartons and a green
bin for all paper products, boxboard and
cardboard.
Since December 5, 1988
Warwick residents have recycled over 100,000 tons of material.
The enormous success of Warwick's recycling program is a direct
result of the efforts and dedication of each resident. Lets continue
our recycling efforts to keep Warwick as a leader in the state.
The less we send to
the landfill, the less we pay, the more we save! Please do your
part and recycle!!!!!!!!
