Introduction
to Sanitation
The
City of Warwick has a strong commitment to waste reduction and recycling.
Our goal is to reduce the amount of trash sent to the landfill.
Over the past forty years
the Sanitation Division has provided a full range of comprehensive
services to Warwick residents. Prior to 1989 everything put at curbside
was collected by the same truck.
Today, putting your trash
at curbside is not the same as it used to be due to the implementation
of the mandatory recycling program; different trucks collect different
items. This means that material must now be separated at curbside
for the proper pickup.
The Sanitation Division
of the Public Works Department provides trash collection once a
week for over 85,000 residents in Warwick.
The sanitation crews,
consisting of 16 men on eight trucks, service approximately 6000
houses per day. Each two man crew, pick from curbside an average
14 tons of trash per day.
At $32.00 dollars per
ton, each truck that is dumped at the landfill will cost an average
of $450.00 dollars. Each year Warwick residents dispose of over
28,000 tons of garbage at a cost of nearly $900,000.
The less we send to the landfill, the
less we pay, the more we save! Please do your part and recycle!!!!!!!!
