Welcome
to the City of Warwick's sanitation and recycling website, where
our dedicated staff has made sure that you will find answers to
virtually any recycling question you may have.
From Earth Day cleanups
to supporting open space bonds to participating in organizations
like the Watershed Action Team, Warwick residents have long demonstrated
their dedication to preserving and restoring our environment.
So it comes as no surprise that for more than a decade our city
has led the state in recycling efforts.
Thanks to the cooperation
of our 85,000 residents, Warwick recycles 10,000 tons of material
each year - more than any other municipality in the state. Since
1988, when mandatory recycling began here, our residents have
recycled over 100,000 tons - great for the environment and good
for taxpayers, who save $32 for every ton that is diverted from
the landfill. Warwick's recycling program is now considered a
model for others to emulate.
We've made great strides
in the past decade. There's always more to be done, however, and
I invite you to explore the pages here to learn how you can help
us top our recycling goals. At this site, you can discover how
to recycle or properly dispose of nearly 50 items, get tips on
home composting, and learn about the Municipal Recycling Facility
on Sandy Lane. You can find out how to dispose of Christmas trees
and wrapping paper during the holiday season. There are also links
to other environmental sites - a plus if you're looking for information
for a school project.
I would like to thank
the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation, who generously
awarded the city a $15,000 grant toward development of this site.
And, of course, many
thanks to you for your efforts. I know that together we can make
greater strides to preserve and restore our environment.
