Sewer System Information

WARWICK WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY

The Warwick Wastewater Treatment Facility is designed to treat wastewater from the City of Warwick.  The facility uses modern processes and equipment to treat wastewater and remove most of the pollutants before discharging the wastewater into the Pawtuxet River.

The Executive Director of the Warwick Sewer Authority is in charge of the facility and reports directly to the Board Members of the Authority.  The Superintendent together with his trained operations personnel have the responsibility of maintaining the equipment and operating the unit processes in a manner that meets and exceeds the requirements of the Rhode Island Pollution Discharge Elimination System (RIPDES) Permit.

The Warwick Wastewater Treatment Facility, designed for an average annual flow rate of 7.7 mgd, is an advanced wastewater treatment plant that performs two basic functions.  It separates most of the solids from the liquid and kills most of the pathogenic organisms prior to discharge to the Pawtuxet River.  A combination of physical, chemical and biological unit operations and processes are used to treat the wastewater and the sludge.
