3/15/2020 Update - COVID-19

Mayor Solomon continues to work very closely with Governor Raimondo and the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) to contain the spread of this virus. He and his team are receiving daily briefings, and we will be sharing as much information as possible.

Right now, in accordance with Governor Raimondo’s updated guidance, Mayor Solomon is asking everyone to stay home as much as possible and limit going out to only when absolutely necessary.

As part of the statewide effort to contain COVID-19, schools are closed. Mayor Solomon is urging parents, guardians and students to recognize that this is not a normal school vacation. Kids should not be congregating at malls or other venues.

Additionally, in accordance with new recommendations from Governor Raimondo and RIDOH, all senior centers are closed. Transwick Transportation is also closed. Mayor Solomon is committed to ensuring continuity of essential food services for the seniors who rely upon meals from our senior centers. Warwick’s Office of Senior Services is working directly with their clients to ensure that meals are available. Seniors with questions or concerns should call Warwick’s Office of Senior Services at 401-468-4070.

We know that for most people, the symptoms of COVID-19 are mild. However, for people at higher risk – like the elderly, people with compromised immune systems or underlying conditions – this virus is catastrophic and even deadly. By containing the spread, we are helping to ensure that our healthcare facilities do not get overwhelmed.

Mayor Solomon’s team is working around the clock to make sure Warwick is as prepared as possible. Our Department of Public Works is doubling down on cleaning and sanitizing efforts, which are crucial in preventing the spread of germs.
