Warwick Mayor Joseph J. Solomon was born in Providence, but has been a Warwick resident for more than four decades. Mayor Solomon is a graduate of Classical High School in Providence. He also holds a degree in Accounting from Providence College and graduated Magna Cum Laude and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law in Boston.
Prior to being sworn in as Mayor in May 2018, Mayor Solomon served for 18 years as City Councilman for Ward 4. During his tenure he was elected Council President four times by his counterparts. As such, he has an abundance of firsthand experience dealing with the inner workings of legislative responsibilities, as well as a vast working knowledge of municipal government. The Mayor was also the first Chief Judge of Warwick’s Municipal Court for five years.
Mayor Solomon’s commitment to the City of Warwick has been demonstrated by his championing of fiscal responsibility, promotion of economic development, ensuring superior City services, especially for the City’s senior community, and the protection of and accessibility to the City’s 39 miles of coastline. Going forward, Mayor Solomon’s commitment to the improvement of infrastructure and municipal buildings will serve as a cornerstone of his Administration.
Mayor Solomon moved from Providence to Warwick after meeting and marrying his wife of 36 years, Cynthia. Together, they have one son, Joseph J. Solomon, Jr. and their dog, Buddy. They are communicants of Saints Kevin and Benedict and Saint George’s parishes. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, visiting Warwick’s beautiful beaches and the City’s many fabulous restaurants. The Mayor is also a car enthusiast, so you can catch him checking out both new and vintage cars alike during cruise nights in Oakland beach.
