WARWICK – Mayor Joseph J. Solomon is scheduled to stop by the Heritage Christian Fellowship Church tonight, where Troop 1 Boy Scouts will be wrapping up socks collected for the needy. The event runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The church is located at 358 Warwick Neck Avenue.
The collection drive was organized by Timothy Gardner, who is working toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
Gardner’s initial goal was to collect 500 pairs of socks – a goal that he far surpassed by collecting 2,300 pairs. The socks will be distributed at St. Charles Church on Dexter Street in Providence next week.
A sophomore at Pilgrim High School, Gardner began doing community service for his parish as a sixth grader. After surpassing his 10-hour requirement at a soup kitchen, he continued volunteering and is now in his fourth year at the kitchen. This collection drive is a natural extension of his desire to help those in need.
